Pour son nouveau cycle consacré à la voix, et plus particulièrement aux différentes langues, la cité de la musique propose de considérer la mythique tour de Babel comme métaphore de la mondialisation. L’ensemble vocal Sequenza 9.3, mené par Catherine Simonpietri, interprétera Les Chants de l’amour de Gérard Grisey et A-Ronne de Luciano Berio. Dans cette dernière oeuvre, Bério et le poète italien Eduardo Sanguineti ont élaboré un texte polyglotte, en utilisant des citations provenant de sources radicalement différentes. Grisey, quant à lui, a déconstruit le vocabulaire amoureux à l’aide de l’électronique, comme pour chercher une sorte de bruit universel de l’amour. L’EIC de Susanna Mälkki proposera Intégrales de Varèse, Barbarismes / Trilogie de l’an mil de Pierre Jodolwski et terminera par le Laborinthus II de Berio. Pour cette pièce, Berio retravailla avec Sanguineti sur une écriture cumulative. Les phrases, courtes au début, se complètent au fur et à mesure telle une mémoire usée qui peine à mettre en ordre ses propres souvenirs.
