« Frank McGuinness fouille, avec âpreté et lyrisme, les eaux troubles, difficilement sondables et exprimables, de la souffrance, de l’abandon, de la solitude et de la trahison de l’enfance », explique le metteur en scène Stuart Seide. Créé en 2001 par le directeur du Théâtre du Nord, Baglady est aujourd’hui repris au théâtre Gérard-Philipe de Saint-Denis dans le cadre de Villes, manifestation regroupant, aux côtés du monologue de l’écrivain irlandais, trois récits de vies, trois fenêtres ouvertes sur l’intime : Saleté de Robert Schneider, Ils habitent la Goutte d’or de Laurence Février et Classe de Blandine Keller. A l’instar des personnages de ces trois spectacles, la « femme au sac » interprétée par Cécile Garcia-Fogel répond à un besoin de dire, de raconter, de recomposer sa vie pour parler de la place qu’elle occupe dans le monde, de la noirceur de son destin. Un destin qui semble en effet bien loin de toute place au soleil, qui porte en lui les marques d’un passé trouble et tourmenté.
