Dans un tourbillon d’hélices et de turbines où se glisse l’élan de violons éperdus, six danseurs affolent le mouvement, en déflagrations de gestes et ondes tournoyantes sur la partition effrénée de Karlheinz Stockhausen et les images magnétiques du plasticien Holger Förterer. Avec Helikopter (2001), Angelin Preljocaj confrontait la danse à l’univers du compositeur allemand, alchimiste du son à l’avant-garde des innovations de la musique contemporaine. « J’ai eu un immense plaisir à créer cette pièce. La radicalité de la musique m’a poussé plus loin. Elle ne souffre ni fioritures ni superficialités et elle oblige à aller à l’essentiel, jusqu’à « l’os du mouvement » » raconte le chorégraphe. Il récidivait d’ailleurs six ans plus tard avec Eldorado, créé sur Sonntags Abschied, composition complexe pour cinq synthétiseurs qui effiloche la mélodie en digressions spirituelles. Invité à l’Opéra national de Paris, le Ballet Preljocaj livre ces deux œuvres majeures de son répertoire.
