Son visage passe du recueillement à des airs de malice, d’une expression de majesté à une forme de douce espièglerie, de sagesse rieuse. Installée au bord du théâtre de marionnettes octogonal au sein duquel Banquet Shakespeare ouvrira bientôt les portes à un monde de théâtre d’une grande beauté, Odile Sankara regarde les spectateurs qui s’installent à ses côtés, tout autour du dispositif de jeu conçu par Ezéquiel Garcia-Romeu et David Pasquier. Elle nous adresse des sourires complices, fugaces, puis baisse de nouveau le regard, avant de prendre la parole pour revisiter – avec nous, les yeux dans les yeux – les tragédies noires de Shakespeare. Coryphée, conteuse-marionnettiste, comédienne-griot, Odile Sankara charrie avec elle toute la profondeur concrète, allègre de son Afrique natale. Assis au plus près d’elle, plongés dans une atmosphère obscure et intime, nous sommes immédiatement happés par sa voix, son regard, sa diction, ainsi que par l’étrange présence des petites marionnettes qui, de-ci de-là, font leur apparition sans jamais prononcer un mot.
De la fureur au silence, du crime à la folie
Un squelette, un fossoyeur, un diable, un crapaud, une araignée, un clochard-roi… Ces présences muettes et énigmatiques sortent de toutes sortes de trappes, naissent au monde pour quelques secondes, observent le public, regardent à gauche, à droite, effectuent de petits gestes, lentement, puis s’esquivent aussi rapidement qu’elles ont surgi. Venant ponctuer les pensées sur Shakespeare de l’universitaire polonais Jan Kott (1914-2001), elles font naître dans l’espace de ce Cabaret des instants d’une grande poésie. Des instants au cours desquels le temps semble parfois se suspendre, se condenser. Ainsi, cette belle représentation chemine entre perspectives shakespeariennes et silences, sourires et saisissements métaphysiques. Rejouant le parcours qui mène de la politique à la violence, du pouvoir à la folie, Ezéquiel Garcia-Romeu (aidé par Christophe Avril pour la manipulation des marionnettes) donne corps à un moment de théâtre, pour reprendre les derniers mots d’Odile Sankara, de « l’étoffe dont les rêves se font ».
