Un an après sa dernière apparition parisienne dans la même salle, Barry Douglas, grande figure du piano international, fait son retour à la tête d’un orchestre de son invention. Une formation utopique faisant le pari de réunir des musiciens d’Irlande du Nord et du Sud, souvent membres par ailleurs de grands orchestres internationaux. L’orchestre se distingue aussi par son statut privé, son fonctionnement en autogestion et peut-être avant tout par la très riche et personnelle sonorité de ses cordes… « Nous donnons chaque année environ quarante concerts, en Irlande du Nord et du Sud, mais aussi à l’étranger. Il est très important pour nous de nous produire à l’international, afin de montrer que la scène musicale irlandaise ne se limite pas au crossover celtique et à U2. Les quarante musiciens de l’ensemble sont irlandais et ont entre vingt et trente-cinq ans… » explique Douglas. Comme il y a un an, il a choisi Mozart et trois de ses Concertos qu’il aime à aborder comme de petits opéras, dont il cherche à souligner la trame et les personnages, un peu à la manière d’un metteur en scène : Concertos n° 14 en mi bémol majeur K. 449 ; n° 24 en ut mineur K. 491 et n° 21 en ut majeur K. 467.
