Les similitudes avec le nô sont structurales, et les ressemblances avec les
personnages comiques du kyôgen significatives. Les Shigeyama sont une ancienne
famille d’acteurs de kyôgen représentant l’une des deux grandes écoles existant
aujourd’hui. Installée à Kyôto, cette famille interprète des kyôgen classiques
mais aussi des créations contemporaines au Japon comme dans le monde pour que se
répande l’humour de cette forme de théâtre. Les Shigeyama ont depuis plusieurs
années intégré et confronté Beckett au kyôgen avec succès. Au programme, les
pièces Pas moi suivi de Souffle dans une mise en scène de Barbara
Hutt avec Raphaëlle Gitlis. Pour le kyôgen, Actes sans paroles I et II
avec Akira Shigeyama, des pantomimes et mimes pour un ou deux personnages.
Kyôgen signifie « paroles folles », ces pièces se jouent le plus souvent entre
deux pièces de nô afin de libérer par le rire la tension tragique. Le comique
tire parti du contraste saisissant entre la trivialité des situations et la
stylisation des gestes les plus grotesques, ce qui saurait plaire à Beckett.
