Titulaire de l’orgue de Saint-Louis-en-l’île depuis près de vingt ans, Benjamin Alard est l’un des plus parfaits connaisseurs de la musique pour clavier de Bach, qu’il a entrepris d’enregistrer au clavecin et à l’orgue, pour le label Harmonia Mundi. Sur le superbe orgue Grenzing de Radio France, il interprète le sommet de contrepoint que constitue les Sonates en trio (trois voix : une pour chaque main, la troisième au pédalier) et y intercale des chorals tirés du Petit Livre d’orgue. L’équivalent virtuose pour le clavecin pourrait bien être les Variations Goldberg. Justin Taylor s’y attaque une semaine plus tard, avec l’aisance et la sonorité pleine qui lui sont naturelles. Il sera intéressant de retrouver, à la Salle Cortot, le même cycle de 30 variations sous les doigts d’un autre artiste complet, Pierre Hantaï, maître de la génération précédente, qui l’a déjà enregistré par deux fois (chez Opus 111 puis Mirare).
