Créé en 2016 aux Bouffes du nord par l’incandescente Judith Chemla avec Benjamin Lazar à la mise en scène, le spectacle Traviata – Vous méritez un avenir meilleur a rapidement enflammé la critique et le public. Difficile en effet d’être insensible à cette proposition originale et poétique où la célèbre partition de Verdi prend une dimension intime avec seulement huit instrumentistes. Musique et théâtre fusionnent dans un univers fantasmagorique d’une grande beauté, reflet du « parfum entêtant et paradoxal de rêve et de réalité [qui] flotte autour de La Traviata, comme si la vie et la mort de cette femme dite ‘dévoyée’ semblaient à la fois plus réelles et plus insaisissables que celles des autres héroïnes lyriques », selon les mots du metteur en scène. Judith Chemla, dont on découvrait la jolie voix de soprano forgée au conservatoire d’Aubervilliers, était une Violetta fascinante, tour à tour frémissante, ironique, délicate, fatale. C’est aujourd’hui à Elise Chauvin – souvent entendue avec l’ensemble Le Balcon de Maxime Pascal – qu’il revient d’incarner le destin de la courtisane, avec à ses côtés Florent Baffi, Safir Behloul et Jérôme Billy.
