Théâtre des Halles / d’après Jean Racine / mes Frédéric Fisbach
Avec Bérénice, Racine signe en 1670 une tragédie de l’amour et du renoncement. Ici, pas de mort, pas de sang, mais le sacrifice d’une passion par un homme, Titus, qui choisit de devenir empereur plutôt que d’épouser celle qu’il aime. Dix-huit ans après avoir mis une première fois en scène cette tragédie, Frédéric Fisbach revient à Bérénice dans une version pour un seul acteur, interprétée par Mathieu Montanier. « Mathieu a cette qualité rare d’emporter les écritures dans son monde et de nous les rendre encore plus elles-mêmes, dans leurs plénitudes et leurs puissances évocatrices, explique le metteur en scène. Il ne fait pas seulement exister les mots mais aussi les silences propres à chaque langue. » Au plus près du public, le comédien se propose d’exalter la langue de Racine. De la faire sienne et nôtre, pour donner corps à l’émotion que révèle « la douleur des séparations successives qui jalonnent la vie humaine ».
