On l’oublie souvent mais la Symphonie fantastique de Berlioz, best-seller et apogée du Romantisme musical français, a une suite : Lélio, ou le retour à la vie. Selon son auteur, ce vaste monodrame lyrique pour voix solistes, chœur, acteur et orchestre « doit être entendu immédiatement après la Symphonie fantastique, dont il est la fin et le complément ». Une volonté peu respectée par les chefs et orchestres du monde entier. Pour cette production très exceptionnelle, Herreweghe et ses musiciens de l’Orchestre des Champs-Elysées (familiers de la Fantastique » à laquelle leurs instruments d’époque apportent des timbres et des textures réjouissants) respectent le souhait du compositeur et vont même au-delà en provoquant une véritable recréation scénique de l’ouvrage.
Musique, danse et installation vidéo
Jean-Philippe Clarac et Olivier Deloeuil, jeunes metteurs en scène à la tête de l’Opéra français de New York, ont imaginé une véritable traduction visuelle de l’œuvre, mobilisant lumières et installations vidéo, comédiens et danseuses dans une mise en espace qui donnera à « voir » la musique autant qu’à l’écouter. En particulier, à travers le spectre d’une jeune femme blonde omniprésente et obsédante, incarnation très hitchcockienne de « l’idée fixe » chère à Berlioz… « Le spectacle propose de suivre au fil des deux œuvres un jeune homme qui a aimé une femme et qui, après qu’elle l’a quitté, la voit réapparaître sous des formes multiples… Il comprendra finalement que les images de cette femme ne sont que l’illustration de ses propres fantasmes et que la création musicale seule, pourra lui permettre de dépasser le départ de la femme aimée » expliquent les metteurs en scène. Un événement créé à Poitiers avant de partir en tournée en Amérique du Sud, de Buenos Aires à Brasilia.
