Le grand Bernard Haitink, aujourd’hui âgé de 83 ans, a mis un terme en 2010 à son mandat de Chef principal de l’Orchestre symphonique de Chicago ; il est aujourd’hui un chef libre. Grand connaisseur de la vie musicale londonienne (où il a été en poste de longues années, en particulier au Covent Garden), le Maestro hollandais est aujourd’hui au pupitre du sublime LSO dans le cadre de sa résidence à la Salle Pleyel. Comme une parfaite réplique d’un concert programmé il y a un an presque jour pour jour, il accompagne, avant l’entracte, Maria-João Pires dans Mozart (Concerto pour piano n° 20) avant de diriger en grand maître de la musique romantique germanique la Symphonie n° 7 de Bruckner. Personne mieux que Haitink ne sait faire mentir Furtwängler qui déclarait : » Une symphonie de Bruckner ressemble à une symphonie de Bruckner comme un œuf à un œuf « . Cette sublime « Septième », dont l’Adagio est l’un des sommets de toute l’œuvre du compositeur, a été conçue comme un hommage à Wagner dont Bruckner semble avoir eu le pressentiment de la disparition (en février 1883) en se mettant au travail en 1881…
