« Le Festival Théâtral du Val d’Oise a été fondé en 1983, à une époque où ce département souffrait d’un déficit fort de structures et d’équipements culturels. Dirigé jusqu’à l’année dernière par Alain Léonard, ce rendez-vous annuel — l’un des seuls festivals à être dédié uniquement au théâtre, au théâtre dans ses différentes formes, mais au théâtre uniquement — s’est inscrit, dès sa création, dans une démarche ambitieuse de décentralisation. En effet, cette manifestation est née de l’envie de ses fondateurs d’amener le théâtre contemporain jusqu’au pas de porte des gens. Chaque ville partenaire — elles étaient dix-huit en 1983, elles sont quarante-quatre aujourd’hui — se voit proposer une programmation en adéquation avec ses équipements, ses publics, ses priorités. Le réseau qui s’est ainsi constitué entre les municipalités, les structures culturelles, les élus, les artistes, les habitants, les professionnels…, a permis à un climat très stimulant de voir le jour, un climat de profonde et de chaleureuse coopération.
Une édition 2009 centrée sur le théâtre d’objets et de marionnette
Cette édition 2009 est centrée autour du théâtre d’objets et de marionnette. De nombreuses propositions appartenant à ces deux disciplines seront ainsi présentées aux publics val-d’oisiens. Notamment Est-ce que les insectes qui volent se cognent entre eux parfois ou est-ce qu’ils s’évitent toujours ?, un spectacle conçu et mis en scène par Pierre Blaise du Théâtre sans Toit, d’après des textes de Thierry Lenain. Ces deux artistes sont les lauréats d’un appel à projets lancé en 2007 visant à encourager le compagnonnage entre auteurs et metteurs en scène, appel qui est venu nourrir le travail autour de l’émergence de nouveaux créateurs que le festival accomplit depuis sa création. En prenant la succession d’Alain Léonard, je souhaite poursuivre l’action militante en laquelle je crois depuis toujours : celle de l’éducation populaire, de l’exigence et de la qualité accessibles à tous. A la tête de ce festival, je veux continuer à me battre contre la culture à deux vitesses, continuer à ne jamais confondre le théâtre populaire et le théâtre populiste. »
