Après le théâtre d’objets en 2009, la création africaine en 2010, quel est l’axe de programmation de cette nouvelle édition du Festival théâtral du Val d’Oise ?
Bernard Mathonnat : Cette édition s’intitule « musiques en scène ». Près d’un tiers de la programmation illustre en effet l’attirance réciproque qui existe entre le théâtre et la musique, au-delà des domaines spécifiques que sont l’opéra et la comédie musicale. Les artistes de la scène utilisent de plus en plus d’éléments sonores et musicaux au sein de leurs créations. Nous avons souhaité éclairer cette tendance profonde en présentant treize propositions mêlant, d’une façon ou d’une autre, ces deux modes d’expression artistique. Cette thématique va nous permettre de croiser les publics, de sensibiliser – en passant par le réseau des écoles de musique, qui est très important dans le département du Val d’Oise – de nouveaux spectateurs au théâtre. Le spectacle d’ouverture est emblématique de cet axe de programmation. Dans sa mise en scène de Richard III, Alain Gauchard réunit en effet un comédien, un rappeur et un guitariste pour interpréter le rôle-titre de la pièce de William Shakespeare.

B. M. : Absolument. Notre festival s’est toujours situé dans la dynamique citoyenne visant à défendre l’idée d’un théâtre partout et pour tous. Nous avons toujours considéré le partage avec le plus grand nombre, sur la base d’une exigence artistique de haut niveau, comme un enjeu d’avenir, un enjeu de civilisation, comme un atout dans la construction de l’être humain. C’est la raison pour laquelle nous avons décidé de diviser le département en cinq zones afin de pouvoir donner, dans chacune d’entre elles, un reflet global de notre programmation. Le public pourra ainsi découvrir l’ensemble de nos propositions artistiques au plus près de chez lui. Suivant cette même démarche, nous avons créé, l’année dernière, une Ecole du spectateur, qui permet à des jeunes parmi les plus éloignés de l’offre culturelle d’assister à plusieurs représentations théâtrales chaque saison, de participer à des actions pédagogiques avec des comédiens ou des metteurs en scène, d’appréhender les différentes composantes du spectacle vivant.
Cette 29e édition se clôturera avec une mise en scène de Crime et châtiment, d’après Fedor Dostoïevski, signée de Dominique Surmais…
B. M. : Oui, ce spectacle qui fait alterner des séquences sonores et visuelles avec des scènes dramatiques annonce la thématique du festival 2012, qui portera sur l’adaptation théâtrale d’œuvres littéraires.
