C’était en 1979… La jeune danse française ébouriffait les codes en vigueur, cherchant espaces et moyens pour faire pétiller toute son inventivité. Durant trois jours de printemps, quelque deux cents danseurs, chorégraphes, musiciens, comédiens, syndicalistes, élus et techniciens se retrouvaient à l’invitation de L’Ensemble Chorégraphique de Vitry, dirigé par Michel Caserta. Au programme de ce Festival de danse en Val-de-Marne : spectacles et intenses discussions. Ainsi se dessinait la Biennale, née deux ans plus tard, en 1981. Depuis maintenant trente ans, ce festival essaime les plus beaux éclats de la création chorégraphique à travers tous les lieux associés du département. Il déborde même les frontières du Val-de-Marne et gagne Paris, la Seine-Saint-Denis et le Val-d’Oise. Labellisé Centre de Développement Chorégraphique en 2006, il attend toujours l’ouverture de La briqueterie de Gourmay, lieu dédié à la création, à la diffusion et à la formation…
Variété esthétique
Avec une vingtaine de propositions à l’affiche, dont sept coproductions et deux commandes, cette 15ème édition garde donc la création en ligne de mire. Fidèle à sa vision d’ouverture, la Biennale privilégie l’éclectisme des esthétiques et des formats pour faire découvrir la variété du paysage chorégraphique. Irradiant encore et toujours la modernité, Merce Cunningham vient avec Suite for five (1956) et Autour de Paris, « event » composé d’extraits du répertoire et de séquences créées pour chaque performance. La création fouille cette année au cœur de la danse : Daniel Dobbels (Danser, de peur) en questionne le sens face au cynisme ambiant, Geisha Fontaine et Pierre Cottreau (Pièce mécanique) démontent les mécanismes du ballet, Joanne Leighton (The End) s’amuse avec les fins, Anne Nguyen (L’esprit souterrain) fait un bal d’apocalypse joyeuse et Georges Momboye (Entre ciel et terre) frotte inspiration africaine et quatuors de Bartok. L’édition 2009 résonnera aussi du Cri, de Nacera Belaza, consacrée par le prix de la Révélation du Syndicat de la critique. Et d’une multitude d’accents venus d’ailleurs : australien avec Rosalind Crisp, belge avec Karine Ponties, coréen avec Yong-Bu Ha, italien avec Virgilio Sieni, japonais avec Hiroaki Umeda, sud-Africain avec Nelisiwe Xaba, turc avec Ziya Azazi…. Une belle diversité donc !
