S’il n’est pas le seul à s’inscrire dans ce sillon, il figure parmi le peloton de tête des héritiers tout désignés pour prolonger le legs de Django Reinhardt. Surdoué techniquement, Biréli Lagrène est hanté depuis tout jeune par le fantôme du guitariste référence du style manouche. Pour autant, il a su affirmer son propre style, biberonné par le rock qu’il écouta dans ses vertes années et qu’il retranscrit à sa façon, une fusion électrique dont il devint l’un des fers de lance. Certes, mais avec le temps, il est revenu à ses premières amours, fort de toutes ses expériences passées. Le revoilà fêtant enfin son demi-siècle de musique, dont une carrière débutée voici désormais plus de quarante ans. A ses côtés, Sylvain Luc, autre prodigieux de la guitare avec lequel il enregistra en 1999 un chouette Duet, et Thomas Dutronc, chanteur-guitariste avec lequel il échangea en toute intimité dès 2010. Somme toute, une histoire de fidélité et de cordes subtiles que cette soirée baptisée « Magic Fingers ».
