Tout commence par une scène lente et distanciée. Une reine, comme absente et mélancolique, assise au sein d’un large siège, brode une pièce de tissu un jour d’hiver. Elle se pique avec son aiguille. Il s’agit, évidemment, de la future mère de Blanche Neige qui, comme l’ont raconté Jacob et Wilhelm Grimm, forme le vœu de faire naître une enfant à la peau aussi blanche que la neige qu’elle voit tomber ce jour-là, aux lèvres aussi rouges que les gouttes de sang qui viennent de jaillir de son doigt, aux cheveux aussi noirs que le bois d’ébène dont sont faites les fenêtres de son palais. Mais de tout cela rien n’est dit. A l’instar de cette scène initiale totalement muette – scène baignée d’une atmosphère laiteuse et évanescente – pas un seul mot ne sera prononcé durant toute la durée du spectacle conçu par le directeur artistique de La Scène Watteau. Pas un mot, pas un cri, pas un chuchotement ne franchira les lèvres de Pauline Acquart, Julien Campani, Jürg Häring et Marion Suzanne, les quatre interprètes qui composent le cheminement sans texte de ce Blanche Neige aux atouts essentiellement picturaux.
Un cheminement elliptique
Un cheminement elliptique auquel il manque des sursauts, des points de densité, auquel il manque des chocs, des contrastes, des partis pris allant plus loin que la simple composition de panoramas visuels (fussent-ils séduisants). Bien sûr, ce Blanche Neige d’une grande élégance fait figure de belle proposition dans le paysage assez terne des spectacles « jeune public ». Mais doit-on s’en contenter ? D’une linéarité trop méthodique, d’un dépouillement qui frôle parfois la pauvreté, cette représentation pèche par manque d’inventivité. Car la présence d’animaux sur scène (un cheval, des oiseaux), les quelques projections de vidéos et les surgissements d’ombres, les effets d’opacités et de transparence, les climats sonores énigmatiques ne font pas tout. Toutes ces perspectives ne suffisent pas à remplir le vide laissé par l’absence de mots, l’absence de voix et, surtout, l’absence de mise en jeu des êtres, des corps… Et les enfants dans tout cela ? Ils applaudissent, heureux de s’être eux-mêmes racontés l’histoire qu’ils connaissent et enchantés d’avoir passé un moment au théâtre.
