Gaïa, le personnage clownesque inventé par Lucie Valon, continue son chemin sur les pas de Dante dont l’œuvre sert de matériau d’inspiration au travail créatif que mène la jeune artiste en compagnie de Christophe Giordano. « J’ai découvert un texte de Mandelstram qui disait qu’il voyait mieux son époque à travers l’œuvre de Dante et cette idée m’a servi de fil conducteur dans ce projet pour interroger notre société. J’ai été frappée par l’image d’un Dante presque un peu ridicule, trébuchant, ne sachant pas marcher en Enfer, et j’ai travaillé le code clownesque à partir de cette image. », dit Lucie Valon. A la différence du premier spectacle de la trilogie, Dans le rouge, écrit à partir de textes de départ et d’une idée précise du trajet à emprunter, le deuxième spectacle est davantage fondé sur l’improvisation, dans le va-et-vient entre la table et le plateau, le clown guidant ses auteurs dans la construction du spectacle. « Nous sommes partis de l’idée de purgatoire, mais nous ne savions pas comment signifier cette attente suspendue. », avoue Lucie Valon. « Les moments les plus justes étaient ceux où je ne disais rien, où mon clown demeurait comme suspendu avec un regard qui semble chercher quelque chose, comme lorsqu’on cherche un mot quand on a un trou de mémoire, dans cet état qui s’apparente à un vide plein. »
L’absurdité dramatique et comique de l’attente
Plus intime que Dans le rouge, Blank emprunte son titre à la formule consacrée par la novlangue informatique pour signifier le « bug », la panne, l’impasse. Le spectacle tâche donc de rendre compte de tous les petits moments de purgatoire de la vie courante qui, peu à peu, envahissent ce « clown-éponge ». Lucie Valon se défend de vouloir juger ou analyser la société contemporaine : « C’est seulement en tant qu’artiste que j’essaie de faire passer des choses, de faire ressentir le malaise de ces situations qu’on ne sait pas bien définir. Le purgatoire, ça peut durer une seconde ou l’éternité. » Dans ce lieu dévolu à l’attente immuable d’un jugement, lieu d’expiation des âmes médiocres, le clown sème le trouble avec sa maladresse d’Auguste pataud. « Dans ce qu’il a d’imprévisible et d’incontrôlable, le clown met à jours nos leurres et nos compromis. En même temps, il nous permet de distancier le réel et nous emmène vers un univers parallèle qui fonctionne comme une parabole du nôtre. », dit Lucie Valon.
