Créé en 2019, Body and Soul avait provoqué sa petite déflagration. On y découvrait une atmosphère dense et mystérieuse, dans laquelle évoluait un groupe d’individus, progressant en vagues successives réglées au millimètre. Parfois guidés par une voix descriptive, les corps traversaient une danse presque implacable, jouant de la masse aussi poétiquement que politiquement. Les images provoquées par ce magma stylisé touchent à la fois aux rassemblements, aux conflits, aux luttes sociales… à partir desquels s’écrivait un duo tout en amour et en résistance.
Une grande pièce contemporaine à ne pas manquer
Mais plus encore, c’est au troisième acte que le public s’est trouvé profondément marqué par la puissance visuelle du travail de Crystal Pite. L’humanité exposée là dans sa variété, oscillant entre le collectif et l’individuel, subissait une incroyable transformation. Les costumes de Nancy Bryant, entre carapaces et prothèses, donnaient au corps une profondeur bestiale. Le groupe faisait place à l’essaim, mû par les mêmes gestes mais dans une corporéité bouleversée, jusqu’à la libération finale, grandiose, jouissive, et porteuse de l’espoir du pouvoir de la danse.
