« Nous avons, avec les comédiens du Français entrés dans l’aventure, passé une dizaine de jours durant lesquels nous les avons questionnés sur leur rapport au bonheur, explique Emmanuel Darley. Ils ont généreusement répondu, ils ont raconté puis joué, mis en scène, évocations, bribes, des souvenirs, des bonheurs, des rêves de bonheur. Enfance. Rencontres, amours. Et puis cette étrange question d’Andrés [ndlr : Lima], Comment voudriez-vous mourir ? » Ainsi, Bonheur ? est né de ces dix jours d’improvisations, d’un texte livré par le metteur en scène (forme de « pièce dans la pièce » qui réinvestit, par épisodes, des moments ayant précédé la mort de son père), du travail d’écriture d’Emmanuel Darley accompli — au fur et à mesure des répétitions — à partir de ce processus de recherche par le plateau et par les comédiens. Fondé sur des matériaux empiriques et disparates, ce collage théâtral dénote d’emblée une grande détermination à pousser la représentation en dehors de ses carcans. Une détermination qui tend à abolir la frontière séparant scène et salle afin de s’adresser de façon directe au public, d’inclure l’ensemble des spectateurs dans les questionnements de vie qu’esquissent les acteurs.
Autour du bonheur et de la mort
« C’est un endroit instable, le bonheur », fait remarquer l’un des interprètes. Un endroit sans doute aussi instable que le théâtre lorsque celui-ci peine à s’élever, lorsqu’il reste à l’état de tentative, d’expérimentation sympathique mais infructueuse. Car la liberté enjouée au sein de laquelle évoluent Catherine Hiegel, Alexandre Pavloff, Céline Samie, Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam et Gilles David, ne parvient pas à donner corps aux bonnes intentions sur lesquelles s’est bâti le projet. Du « spectacle joyeux et poétique, grave et sensible » qu’a imaginé Andrés Lima, on retiendra assurément beaucoup de joie, un peu de gravité, quelques accents de sensibilité, mais guère de poésie, et guère de véritable inspiration scénique. Les saynètes passent — s’entremêlant, s’interrompant et reprenant —, les comédiens s’en donnent à cœur joie — dansant, chahutant, accomplissant d’incessants allers-retours entre le plateau et la salle —, sans que l’on réussisse à se sentir véritablement concerné par cette suite d’illustrations sur l’existence, sur le bien-être, sur la mort. Ayant le plus grand mal à faire naître le théâtre à partir de ses improvisations, Bonheur ? s’embrouille dans l’anecdote et ne renvoie, finalement, que le plaisir manifeste des interprètes à se livrer à un tel exercice.
