MUSIQUE SACREE / THEATRE DE LA VILLE
Les Carmina Burana ne sont pas uniquement cette œuvre colossale écrite par Carl Orff, compositeur connu pour ses liens sulfureux avec le régime nazi. Il s’agit tout d’abord d’un manuscrit du XIIIème siècle, découvert au début du XIXème siècle dans une abbaye bavaroise. On y trouve plus de 200 poèmes, majoritairement écrits en latin médiéval. Chansons à boire, réflexions panthéistes, ode à l’amour (et tout simplement au sexe parfois !), ce recueil est d’une variété de ton fascinante. Le Théâtre de la Ville le programme dans l’interprétation de la Boston Camerata.
Renaissance
Longtemps dirigé par Joël Cohen, l’ensemble est désormais placé depuis 2008 sous la houlette de la soprano Anne Azéma. Mais la démarche reste la même : interpréter le répertoire médiéval et Renaissance avec la plus grande intelligence historique. Un credo salutaire aux Etats-Unis, où les ensembles sur instruments anciens restent toujours peu répandus. Au Théâtre de la Ville, l’ensemble réunit les voix de Joel Frederiksen, Tim Evans et bien sûr Anne Azéma. On notera également la présence d’un musicien français, François Lazarevitch, passé maître dans l’utilisation des flûtes et autres cornemuses anciennes.
