C’est au fil d’une histoire intime que la boxe et la danse ont d’abord noué un dialogue chez Mourad Merzouki : gamin fermement tenu sous la houlette paternelle, le petit lyonnais s’échappait à la « School fighting » pour pratiquer les arts martiaux, en particulier la boxe américaine (dont il fut champion de France junior) et les arts du cirque. Aujourd’hui, le chorégraphe retrouve des traits d’union entre brutalité boxée et légèreté dansée. « J’ai paradoxalement retrouvé ces deux états dans chacune de ces deux pratiques. Pour cette création, je joue sur ces contrastes, car à chaque élément de la boxe correspond une dimension de l’art chorégraphique. » explique-t-il. En invitant le Quatuor Debussy en scène, qui jouera Ravel, Verdi, Mendelssohn, Schubert ou encore Gorecki, Mourad Merzouki continue d’ouvrir le langage hip hop et déplace l’enjeu du combat comme espace de rencontre. Du ring à la scène, les sept danseurs croiseront performance et défi, affront et confrontation… Autant de façons de mettre en jeu la vérité du corps.
