Mais il pourrait être question de le redécouvrir… Car si ses albums magistraux de la série « The Art of the Trio » l’ont depuis longtemps imposé comme l’un des très rares pianistes aptes, après Bill Evans et Keith Jarrett, à revisiter la formule piano-contrebasse-batterie, Brad Mehldau ne s’est pas, depuis, reposé sur ses lauriers. Il a au contraire multiplié les projets, les rencontres et les remises en question, du solo au duo lorgnant vers le rock avec Mark Guilliana, de la confrontation avec des aînés de choc (Charlie Haden, Pat Metheny) aux rencontres avec de grandes voix classiques comme Renée Fleming ou Anne-Sophie von Otter. A la Philharmonie, il jouera en duo avec Tigran Hamasyan (le 10 à 20h30) et Chris Thile (le 12 à 16h30), en trio avec son groupe régulier (le 11 à 20h30) et invitera son ancien pianiste Fred Hersh (en trio) et son ancien complice de duo Baptiste Trotignon (en solo) à se partager l’affiche du même concert (le 11 à 16h30). Un week-end mouvementé.
