Théâtre Nanterre-Amandiers / de Jean Racine / mes Jean-Louis Martinelli
Créée en 1669, Britannicus est la première pièce de Jean Racine inspirée de l’histoire romaine. Développant les différents événements qui voient l’empereur Néron (Alain Fromager) prendre ses distances avec sa mère Agrippine (Anne Benoît) pour s’approprier Junie (Anne Suarez), la fiancée de Britannicus, son frère par alliance (Eric Caruso), cette tragédie en cinq actes imbrique deux des sujets qui comptent parmi les thèmes d’exploration privilégiés de Jean-Louis Martinelli : les mouvements de la politique et ceux de la quête amoureuse. « L’intérêt de la pièce réside bel et bien dans l’observation des mécanismes qui font que les comportements passionnels conditionnent la quête du pouvoir, mais que son exercice, pour se faire sereinement, exige la maîtrise des débordements de la passion. » déclare-t-il. A travers une direction d’acteur qui insiste sur l’importance de chaque mot, Jean-Louis Martinelli a choisi de privilégier le « concret de la langue », afin de donner corps à un théâtre qui « ne parle jamais pour soi ou pour exprimer un sentiment », mais pour fabriquer « du discours [capable de] modifier l’autre ».
