De spectacle en spectacle, depuis près de 60 ans, le metteur en scène Claude Régy (né en 1923) nous invite – à travers la poésie des mots comme à travers celle du plateau – à des expériences théâtrales d’une exigence rare, d’une grande radicalité. Des expériences conçues comme autant de voyages susceptibles de nous placer face à nous-mêmes, en révélant quelques-uns des secrets enfouis au cœur de l’âme humaine. Après l’événement qu’a constitué, la saison dernière, Ode maritime de Fernando Pessoa*, Claude Régy quitte le Portugal pour sillonner les terres de la littérature norvégienne en portant à la scène un fragment des Oiseaux, de Tarjei Vesaas (1897-1970). Seul sur scène, Laurent Cazanave (jeune comédien âgé de 22 ans que le metteur en scène a connu à l’Ecole du Théâtre national de Bretagne) se fait le passeur de ce fragment intitulé Brume de Dieu, au sein duquel apparaît Mattis, le personnage central du roman. Un jeune homme étrange, décalé, comme inadapté à la vie sociale, que certains habitants de son village prennent pour un retardé.
Une traversée poétique
C’est d’ailleurs ce que laisse penser Laurent Cazanave qui, sourire au lèvre, le regard fixe et extatique durant la quasi totalité de la représentation, compose un personnage hébété. Un personnage qui, réduit à ces expressions figées, finit par manquer de puissance, d’imprévu, tout simplement de profondeur. Décortiquant chaque mot avec application et lenteur, faisant imploser la langue de Tarjei Vesaas pour tenter de mieux nous la faire pénétrer, scandant syllabe par syllabe les phrases de Brume de Dieu selon le procédé cher à Claude Régy, le jeune comédien peine à nourrir son interprétation d’un souffle personnel. Comme reclus dans une attitude formelle, Laurent Cazanave ne se révèle en effet pas à la hauteur des exigences d’intériorité que requièrent les créations du metteur en scène. Consciencieusement moulé dans l’univers de celui-ci, l’acteur ne nous donne jamais véritablement accès aux champs de sa propre sensibilité. Reste, bien sûr, la beauté saisissante des paysages littéraires qu’il nous fait parcourir. Des paysages dans lesquels résident toute la singularité et tout l’éclat de cette traversée poétique.
