Le point de départ de votre nouveau spectacle est de réinvestir, sur scène, un événement ayant fait la une de l’actualité. Pourquoi avoir choisi la marée noire du Golfe du Mexique ?
Bruno Meyssat : D’abord, parce que cet événement s’est inscrit de façon durable dans l’actualité. Il y a eu plusieurs tentatives de colmatage, on a suivi tout cela, durant des mois, un peu comme le symptôme de quelque chose que l’on ne parvenait pas à arrêter. Ensuite, il était important, pour moi, que le sujet à partir duquel allait se construire ce spectacle convoque la nature. Je ne voulais pas qu’il s’agisse d’une histoire qui concerne uniquement les hommes. Enfin, le fait que l’origine de cette fuite échappe à nos regards (le Macondo 252 avait atteint la profondeur de 3960 mètres sous terre) a renvoyé mon imaginaire à quelque chose d’archétypal, de mythique, et m’a permis d’enclencher un endroit de projection fort.

A travers quel procédé d’écriture scénique avez-vous élaboré cette nouvelle création ?
B. M. : Partant du principe que l’on peut établir d’étroites correspondances entre les événements du monde extérieur et les forces agissantes qui habitent l’individu, qui tourmentent sa vie privée, j’ai cherché à restituer les faits ayant abouti à cette marée noire non pas en mettant en scène un texte préexistant, mais en partant des acteurs qui, comme chacun d’entre nous, ont intériorisé cet événement. Nous avons donc travaillé à partir d’improvisations qui m’ont permis de récolter des images — images que j’ai ensuite montées et sonorisées. Cette matière première était très liée à des choses subconscientes. Dans Le Monde extérieur Macondo 252, les objets, l’espace, la lumière, le son et les acteurs (ndlr : Gaël Baron, Pierre-Yves Boutrand, Julie Moreau, Anne-Sophie Sterck, Marie-Laure Vrancken) donnent corps à une construction sensible au sein de laquelle la fable n’est ni repérable, ni utile.
Car ce spectacle se place en dehors de toute fonction illustrative…
B. M. : En effet. Il ne s’agit pas d’une proposition de théâtre documentaire, même si évidemment tout ce que l’on relate est vérifié. Notre ambition n’est pas d’illustrer les faits provenant du monde extérieur, mais de donner au public des clefs qui permettent de partager des images demeurant ouvertes. Cela afin de permettre à chacun de se raconter sa propre histoire, de s’ouvrir à des points de vue et des émotions personnels. D’une certaine façon, notre travail se positionne entre la peinture et le théâtre. Il demande de se placer dans un état de disponibilité, comme lorsque l’on regarde un tableau ou que l’on écoute une musique. Le plus profond, finalement, est toujours fabriqué par le spectateur. C’est lui qui crée avec nous ce qu’il voit. Il parachève le spectacle, le nourrit de sa propre histoire.

B. M. : Oui,le monde hurle tellement que l’on ne peut pas rester à l’écart de ce qu’il nous dit.J’ai donc décidé de me rapprocher des enjeux et des blessures d’aujourd’hui, des sujets qui s’impriment fortement dans notre époque. C’est très motivant d’aborder un matériel aussi vivant et aussi concret.
