Comme socle du spectacle, une trentaine de chansons populaires traversant le vingtième siècle, évoquant le monde du travail sur différents tons et registres. Du Mauvais sujet repenti au Lundi au soleil, du Blues du businessman à Il fait trop beau pour travailler, du Travail c’est la santé à La vie d’artiste, notre imaginaire collectif est nourri de ces chants qui rappellent à chacun combien l’identité professionnelle et les relations de travail comptent dans nos vies ! Plusieurs chansons évoquent des métiers spécifiques, des canuts au célèbre poinçonneur des Lilas, en passant par les cireurs de souliers de Broadway ou les comédiens. Le metteur en scène Jean-Luc Paliès, épaulé par les dialogues de Louise Doutreligne, a voulu donner sens à cette riche description d’un univers en constante évolution en construisant une dramaturgie précisément agencée qui met en lumière avec une certaine nostalgie la mémoire des luttes et celle d’un passé contrasté et révélateur, laissant voir de multiples métiers, personnages et situations, et ne se privant pas au passage de piques sur notre actualité, où le travail joue un rôle central dans un quotidien de plus en plus difficile, et un rôle central aussi dans les discours politiques… Le tout en forme de clin d’œil généreux et humoristique aux “Sublimes“, ouvriers qualifiés du XIXe siècle, réputés fortes têtes.
