Depuis que le Théâtre du Châtelet a donné au musical de Broadway une exposition qu’il n’avait jamais eue auparavant à Paris (il faut absolument aller voir et entendre la superbe production de La Mélodie du bonheur reprise ce mois-ci), les orchestres rivalisent désormais pour faire redécouvrir une musique qui repose avant tout sur l’art de la mélodie juste – celle qui reste en mémoire : pas étonnant que la comédie musicale ait fourni nombre de standards aux jazzmen ! C’est ce répertoire – couplé à celui de l’opérette viennoise – que chantent les remarquables solistes de l’Atelier lyrique de l’Opéra de Paris avec l’ « orchestre-atelier » Ostinato à Suresnes. Sous la direction de Wayne Marshall, un spécialiste reconnu du genre, et avec les sopranos Mary Carewe et Tora Augestad, l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France interprète Gershwin (la Seconde Rhapsodie, rarement entendue), Bernstein (extraits de Candide) ou encore Duke Ellington.
