Lucidité, crudité et délire, ce sont les ingrédients privilégiés de l’œuvre de Copi, auteur, acteur de théâtre et illustrateur, militant homosexuel, disparu en 1987. À partir d’une saucisse « chapardée », le livret de Cachafaz conçu par Copi se déploie jusqu’au carnage humain qui a fort à faire avec la misère sociale et le dérèglement des mœurs. Le travesti Raulito et son amant métis Cachafaz mettent à mort un policier venu les arrêter pour ce vol à l’étalage. D’abord embarrassés par ce cadavre encombrant, ils imaginent avec grande malice une sombre utilité de ce corps à l’abandon. Découpé, il est un mets apprécié des crève-la-faim sectaires qui les entourent. Les bas-fonds de Montevideo prennent de plein fouet ce trafic inédit. Le metteur en scène Benjamin Lazar s’en donne à cœur joie pour étayer cette joyeuse sauvagerie qui donne naissance, contre toute attente, à un bel onirisme. Oscar Strasnoy écrit pour les deux barytons, l’ensemble 2e2m et les vingt-quatre choristes des Cris de Paris, une musique savante et populaire : « Il invite Verdi, Mozart … et des tangos chaloupés pour parfaire ce bijou déjanté. » Un carnage réjouissant.
