En 1673, Lully composait Cadmus et Hermione sur un poème de Philippe Quinault inspiré des Métamorphoses d’Ovide. Cette tragédie, créée pour Louis XIV, devait marquer les débuts de l’opéra français. En ouvrant sa saison par un festival gravitant autour de cette œuvre majeure, interprétée ici par Vincent Dumestre et son ensemble Le Poème Harmonique, l’Opéra Comique réinterroge en quelque sorte ses racines. Dans ce festival, entre autres réjouissances, nous découvrirons également Cachafaz, une intrigante pièce d’Oscar Strasnoy créée au Théâtre de Cornouaille en novembre 2010. Le metteur en scène Benjamin Lazar fera entrer en résonnance les deux tragédies, révélant à chacune le souffle lyrique passionné qu’elles ont en commun. Ce joyeux dialogue entre deux époques nous rappelle que l’art baroque ne se limite pas à une perpétuelle redécouverte d’œuvres du passé. Bien au contraire, son foisonnement accidenté, l’expressivité exacerbée qui le caractérise, ont toute leur place dans la création contemporaine.
