Timbre inimitable, registre incroyablement étendu, virtuosité éblouissante, phrasé clair et précis et interprétation théâtrale exceptionnelle, qui firent d’elle une tragédienne accomplie autant qu’une cantatrice adulée : Maria Callas demeure une des figures mythiques de l’opéra. A ce talent unique s’ajoute une vie aussi dramatique que celle des personnages qu’elle interpréta. La vie de celle qui naquit Sophie Cecilia Kalos, à New York, en 1923, n’a rien à envier à celles de Floria Tosca ou des autres héroïnes flamboyantes qu’elle incarna sur toutes les scènes du monde. Tissant ensemble des propos recueillis de la cantatrice, puisés dans la masse de ce qui fut écrit sur elle, Jean-Yves Picq a composé un texte dont l’ambition est « de faire entendre à nouveau, dans nos temps chaotiques et confus, la voix unique d’une femme et d’une immense artiste s’exprimant sur son art avec une intégrité, un absolu et une sincérité forçant plus que le respect ou la seule admiration ». Jean-Marc Avocat met en scène ce texte, confiant à la jeune Noémie Bianco le soin d’incarner la divine diva.
