Quel projet a été à l’origine de la création de Campus, en 2021 ?
Jean Varela : Nous avons voulu faire en sorte que le Printemps des Comédiens participe à la structuration de la filière théâtre de notre territoire. Bien sûr, l’Ecole nationale supérieure d’art dramatique de Montpellier est l’une des meilleures de France et le Cours Florent a ouvert une antenne dans notre ville. Mais l’enseignement dispensé dans ces écoles d’excellence s’arrête à la formation initiale des élèves. Nous avons pensé que notre festival pouvait mettre en place un programme de formation permanente. Cette initiative fait partie intégrante de notre volonté de développer l’activité du Printemps des Comédiens à l’année sur le Domaine d’O (ndlr, principal lieu de représentation du festival), afin de donner toujours plus d’ampleur à notre projet artistique : la défense du théâtre d’art.
Martin Lorenté : L’AFDAS (ndlr, organisme qui collecte et redistribue les charges sociales liées à la formation des secteurs de la culture, des loisirs et des médias pour permettre aux salariés de réaliser des formations tout au long de leur carrière) nous a beaucoup encouragés et soutenus. Car les artistes ne se saisissent pas autant que les techniciens ou les employés d’autres secteurs de leurs droits à la formation. Il y a assez peu d’enseignements artistiques en formation continue.

Selon vous, quels besoins ce programme de formation va-t-il participer à combler ?
J. V. : Ce qui m’est apparu, depuis des années, c’est l’envie des artistes de rencontrer des créatrices et créateurs venus d’horizons géographiques ou esthétiques différents. Je crois que Campus peut favoriser ces échanges et être à l’origine de nouvelles collaborations.
M. L. : Grâce à Campus, le Printemps des Comédiens est devenu un endroit où l’on fait de la recherche, où les artistes s’ouvrent à d’autres démarches, d’autres pratiques, d’autres univers de création, sans pour cela avoir l’obligation de produire quoi que ce soit.
Comment sont organisées les formations de Campus ?
M. L. : Ce sont des ateliers intensifs de quarante heures, dont les thématiques sont choisies par les artistes. Il peut être question d’interprétation, de dramaturgie, de mise en scène… Nous avons également la volonté de proposer des ateliers faisant dialoguer entre elles différentes disciplines.

J. V. : L’idée, à terme, est que les artistes accompagnés par notre festival puissent donner soit des stages, soit des master-classes, soit des rendez-vous ouverts aux publics… Et puis, nous souhaitons que les artistes en formation puissent assister aux spectacle, que des discussions aient lieu avec d’autres créatrices ou créateurs, que le Printemps des Comédiens deviennent une forme d’agora…
Quelles sont les perspectives d’avenir de ces ateliers ?
J. V. : En 2021, Campus (ndlr, qui se tenait alors uniquement durant la dernière semaine du festival) a permis un véritable bouillonnement d’énergies sur le Domaine d’O. Nous avons eu envie que cette effervescence, cette émulation, cette joie de l’apprentissage partagé s’étendent à l’ensemble du festival. Cette année, Campus aura donc lieu durant les quatre semaines du Printemps des Comédiens.
M. L. : Dans le futur, nous souhaitons donner plus de place aux ateliers créant des passerelles entre différents arts. Et puis, à terme, nous avons pour projet de développer Campus à l’année afin que les artistes puissent suivre un cursus complet, à travers différents stages.
