L’extrême précision de l’écriture de Georges Perec, son amour des mots et sa passion pour la musique auraient pu faire de lui un bon librettiste pour l’opéra. Arnaud Petit, compositeur né en 1959, l’a bien senti, mais il choisit malicieusement comme point de départ l’un des textes les moins narratifs qui soient. En effet, dans Cantatrix Sopranica L., l’écrivain s’emploie à parodier un mémoire scientifique dans le but d’étudier les réactions vocales d’une soprano soumise à des jets de tomates. Dans l’exercice périlleux de transporter sur scène un tel propos, Arnaud Petit s’est associé au talent de Christine Dormoy et de sa Compagnie Le Grain-Théâtre de la Voix, habituées aux défis scénographiques (comme pour le spectacle Les Ailes du vent sur les Chants indiens de Stockhausen, en 2006). Autour de l’ensemble 2e2m en formation quintette, trois personnages : la soprano bien sûr (Isabel Soccoja), le conférencier (interprété par le compositeur) et le chef (Pierre Roullier).
