La saison commence dans les deux salles de l’Opéra National de Paris par la reprise de productions de Robert Carsen, qui ont pour point commun d’avoir pour sujet l’art lyrique. Capriccio, sur un livret du chef d’orchestre Clemens Krauss, est en effet une conversation dans un salon français du XVIIIème siècle sur les différentes problématiques de l’écriture et de la représentation d’un opéra. Sur une intrigue plus intellectuelle que dramatique, Robert Carsen réussit l’une de ses mises en scène les plus géniales et les plus bouleversantes, en parvenant dans la très belle scène finale à répondre à la question que l’héroïne refuse de trancher : primauté de la musique ou suprématie du texte ? Dans les Contes d’Hoffmann, où le héros maudit est amoureux d’une cantatrice, Robert Carsen pousse plus loin encore le concept du théâtre dans le théâtre, avec en miroir permanent une représentation du Don Giovanni de Mozart vu des coulisses, de la scène, de la fosse d’orchestre, du bar… Hommage à l’Opéra Bastille, au Palais Garnier, à Mozart, aux divas, ces deux spectacles font entrer le public au cœur de la création sans en briser le charme.
