Dirigée depuis 2012 par José Carlos Martinez, la compagnie nationale d’Espagne présente une Carmen signée Johan Inger, jeune chorégraphe suédois très talentueux. Une Carmen hispano-nordique donc, qui campe la femme-enfant qui teste ses pouvoirs de séduction et la femme fatale croqueuse d’hommes. Mais dans cette chorégraphie, Johan Inger nous parle peut-être aussi de liberté et de répression. Les portes grises et anonymes du décor pourraient être celles de n’importe quelle usine ou entreprise, et les costumes intemporels remplacent le folklore d’antan. De la vie de Bohème, il n’en est pas question. Il y a des hommes en costards, et des femmes qui doivent travailler. C’est dans ce microcosme étouffé, enfermé, que se déroule le drame, vu à travers le regard d’un enfant. La musique, qui mêle à Carmen Suite de Rodion Chtchédrine (adaptée de Bizet) une partition additionnelle sur une musique originale de Marc Alvarez, soutient à merveille cette excellente compagnie qui s’approprie et réinvente le mythe.
