Pour une diva, Carmen est un prénom ad hoc. Pour une femme amoureuse, idem. Alors quand la diva est une femme amoureuse, le prénom se justifie doublement. Dans Carmen de la Canciòn, il est donc question d’une star qui effectue son grand retour sur scène. Autour d’elle, astre aussi étincelant que sa robe de lumière, gravitent les plus discrètes Dolorès, son assistante-traductrice-choriste-gouvernante, et Gonzales, son accompagnatrice. Un trio à multi-facettes qui n’est pas féminin par hasard : c’est parce qu’elle a été meurtrie par ses relations masculines que Carmen a décidé de s’entourer uniquement de personnes de son sexe. Sous la forme d’un tour de chant où s’enchaînent d’inoxydables chansons d’amour comme « Cucurrucucu paloma », « Surabaya Johnny » ou « Je te promets », le spectacle s’interroge sur ce que signifie être une femme : « Sans aucune véhémence, juste par leur présence, leur énergie singulière, individuellement et réunies dans la lumière, ces trois femmes ne sont pas vraiment féministes, elles sont féminines, à leur manière ».
