Quand Peter Brook avait mis en scène Carmen de Bizet, il y a près de trente ans, il avait demandé au compositeur Marius Constant d’écrire une version réduite de la partition. Une manière de recréer une certaine intimité, loin des dérives folkloriques espagnoles. Le Théâtre de Saint Quentin-en-Yvelines renouvelle l’expérience avec ce Carmen produit par les Concerts de poche. C’est le hautboïste David Walter, transcripteur bien connu, qui a réduit la partition orchestrale de Bizet pour un quatuor à cordes (ici joué par les Ardeo) et un quintette à vents (par le Quintette Artecombo). Sur scène, cinq jeunes chanteurs évolueront dans une mise en scène de Dominique Dollé et Aurélie Cohen. Quant aux parties du chœur, elles seront tenues par des habitants de Saint-Quentin, qui répètent depuis près de quatre mois. Un Carmen décidément innovant !
