La directrice du Centre Chorégraphique National de Roubaix présente ici deux pièces créées en 2007, témoins d’une certaine poésie qui enveloppe son travail. Deux pièces taillées pour la virtuosité de ses interprètes, même si les formes restent légères. Li est d’abord un duo homme-femme trouvant son origine dans la dualité de ce monde. Fortement inspirée par la culture japonaise (philosophie, poésie, calligraphie…), Carolyn Carlson créée ici une atmosphère emprunte de spiritualité, mais dans une quête de vérité proche du zen. L’ombre et la lumière, le masculin et le féminin, le ying et le yang… Li, dans sa douceur, porte toutes ces ambiguïtés, et offre, avec les danseurs Chinatsu Kosakatani et Yukata Nataka, les trajectoires complémentaires d’un monde en constante évolution. Hidden, la deuxième pièce du programme, reflète les désirs de collaboration artistique qui ont toujours émaillé le parcours de Carolyn Carlson. Ici, la pièce tourne autour de la musique de Kaija Saariaho. Les deux femmes ont en commun la Finlande – le pays d’origine des parents de la chorégraphe – et les ambiances lumineuses et aériennes.
Un voyage dans l’histoire de la danse via les Etats-Unis
Hidden s’applique à dévoiler la vérité cachée derrière les mots et les choses. Le quatuor partage avec Li la même obsession pour le dualisme, pour les tensions contraires : homme/femme, corps/esprit… Mais Carlson révèle un univers visuel très fort qui joue avec les corps par l’intermédiaire des costumes et accessoires. Quelques traces peut-être du travail d’Alwin Nikolaïs chez qui elle dansa pendant sept ans avant de devenir la plus française des chorégraphes américaines… Il est intéressant de voir, dans ce même festival et à côté des représentants de la danse française, deux pans de la danse « américaine » : Trisha Brown est l’autre étoile invitée, et l’on découvrira avec elle son parcours de danseuse postmoderne à travers un programme de pièces des années 70 à nos jours, dont le solo magnifique If you couldn’t see me.
