Narration tragique, sombre et désespérée, cet « opéra sans chanteur », ainsi que le qualifie son auteur, déroule pendant près d’une heure le récit de celle qui avait le don de prédire l’avenir mais qui, faute d’avoir été écoutée, ne peut que raconter le destin advenu, la chute de Troie. Marthe Keller avait créé en 1994, aux côtés de l’Ensemble intercontemporain, cette œuvre fulgurante, où la musique transperce le long monologue de la femme visionnaire et meurtrie. L’ensemble a depuis maintenu l’œuvre à son répertoire, l’enregistrant en 2008 pour le label Kairos avec la comédienne Astrid Bas. C’est aujourd’hui Fanny Ardant qui prête sa voix à Cassandre.
