Quel ballet, mieux que Casse-Noisette, pouvait susciter une telle envie chez une grande compagnie de cirque ? L’argument, inspiré d’un conte d’Hoffmann, se présente comme une suite de tableaux oniriques (l’armée des souris, la danse du chocolat, la valse des fleurs…) et l’on n’est, en somme, pas étonné de voir des circassiens s’en saisir. Mais le grand plaisir de Casse-Noisette made in China réside dans le fait qu’on y découvre aussi une facette inattendue de l’art du cirque traditionnel : une valse des flocons exécutée sur des rollers, des numéros d’équilibre qui flirtent avec les danses urbaines, des scènes pleines d’autodérision… Pour cette production, le Cirque national de Chine a fait appel à des collaborateurs issus de tous horizons, et le résultat est inventif et surprenant – avec, en prime, le plaisir de retrouver, inchangée dans cette version moderne, la musique entraînante et contrastée de Tchaïkovski.
