« Fêtes du Mystérieux et du Merveilleux » ou « Cent divertissements » : c’est ainsi que s’appelaient les numéros acrobatiques sous la dynastie Xia, voici plus de 36 siècles. Art populaire fort ancien, le cirque appartient à la tradition culturelle chinoise et, tout en restant un divertissement fondé sur la succession d’exploits, explore aujourd’hui de nouvelles pistes artistiques. Fondée en 1951, la troupe de Dalian s’est imposée comme l’une des plus flamboyantes. Elle donne ici sa version de Casse-Noisette, célèbre ballet de Tchaïkovsky, créé en 1892 à Saint-Pétersbourg sur une chorégraphie de Lev Ivanov et un argument de Marius Petipa. Sous la houlette du metteur en scène Jiang Cheng et du chorégraphe Yongqiang Zhang, les 37 acrobates enchaînent des numéros étourdissants de mâts chinois, diabolos, fil souple, équilibre, jonglage avec ombrelles, pagode des bols, adage sur pointes, cerceaux, trapèze et rubans, assiettes tournantes, jonglage à mains, pyramide de chaises, acrobaties à vélo ou encore clown. Soit un tourbillon coloré de prouesses époustouflantes.
