« Mes spectacles sont souvent inspirés de voyages réels, ou de voyages dans la littérature d’un pays. Sur l’Algérie, j’ai d’abord eu l’opportunité d’y aller pour le travail, puis j’y suis retournée ensuite sept ou huit fois. Dans Algeria, de miel et de braise, tout est écrit : je suis vraiment partie de ce que j’ai entendu, de ce que j’ai vu, de ce que j’ai vécu. Le récit se construit à travers l’histoire de d’une petite fille sur vingt ans de sa vie, entrecoupée d’une voix enregistrée, et de légendes plus anciennes qui ont un rapport proche ou lointain avec ce qui se passe, racontées par une grand-mère. La voix off est celle d’un algérien, qui va retracer les années islamistes entre 93 et 2002, comme dans un témoignage. Il y a de la réécriture bien sûr, mais j’ai repris des phrases de gens qui ont été menacés pendant cette période, j’ai beaucoup parlé avec eux, et à partir de là, j’ai écrit comme quelqu’un qui raconterait ces années-là, et la façon dont il les a vécues.
Ambivalence et intolérance
Le texte regroupe des éléments historiques, politiques, et légendaires. Je raconte, j’incarne les personnages, mais j’ai aussi appris des chants kabyles, espagnols et arabes, qui constituent la partie musicale du spectacle. Pourquoi De miel et de Braise ? C’est l’histoire d’une petite fille qui a assisté au massacre de sa famille, dont elle a survécu, avec son père. Cette petite fille peut se reconstruire grâce à l’amour qui la lie à son grand-père. Je trouve dans ce pays beaucoup d’ambivalence : il y a en même temps une grande solidarité familiale, amicale, et des rapports très durs entre les gens. Je tourne toujours malgré moi autour des mêmes thèmes, les rapports entre l’homme et la femme, la place de la femme, de l’intolérance religieuse et politique. Ce sont des thèmes également très actuels en France. Ce que je cherche dans les autres pays, ce sont des réponses à des questions que je me pose ici. Ces questions, je les vois à travers d’autres cultures, d’autres façons de penser, d’autres histoires. On cherche toujours des réponses à ses propres questions. »
