Alors qu’on aurait pu la classer un peu hâtivement dans la catégorie des « héritières », Cécile McLorin Salvant n’a cessé d’affirmer une personnalité musicale singulière qui excède largement la simple émule des grandes chanteuses de l’histoire du jazz. Son sens de la dramaturgie, son attention aux paroles, le choix soigneusement réfléchi de son répertoire, son propre travail de composition ont montré que la chanteuse aimait utiliser les textes comme lieu de résonance de l’âme humaine et de ses effusions. Tiré d’un album paru au printemps, le projet « Ghost Song » qu’elle présente sur scène cet automne le confirme. Elle s’y présente accompagnée notamment de Marvin Sewell (guitariste dont Cassandra Wilson s’est longtemps attaché les services) et de Glenn Zaleski, remarquable pianiste de New York, qui s’ajoutent au plaisir de retrouver la chanteuse sur scène.
