Depuis les Noces de Figaro de Mozart sur la scène de l’Opéra Bastille en 1991, Cecilia Bartoli n’est plus apparue en France qu’en concert. On pourrait s’en plaindre si elle n’avait pas renouvelé le genre du récital. Conçus autour d’une thématique unique, ses concerts sont d’une cohérence musicologique absolue et d’une rare générosité. Les très nombreux airs qu’elle propose sont à peine entrecoupés d’intermèdes instrumentaux car, dit-elle, le public paie pour la voir. Elle est d’ailleurs en France la seule artiste lyrique dont les récitals affichent complets des mois à l’avance. Virtuose éblouissante et belcantiste au legato infini dans les morceaux élégiaques, elle a réussi à rendre à la tessiture de mezzo-soprano sa place centrale dans le répertoire italien. Qui d’autre qu’elle peut remplir la Salle Pleyel en ne chantant que du Agostino Steffani, compositeur baroque oublié ? En associant le plaisir hédoniste à la musicologie savante, elle enchante autant les spécialistes que les néophytes.
