Depuis qu’il s’est introduit sur la scène chorégraphique, au mitan des années 90, Jérôme Bel a patiemment démonté, pièce après pièce, les fondements de la danse et les mécanismes de la représentation, jusqu’à découvrir le « degré zéro » de l’acteur-danseur, pour reprendre l’expression de Roland Barthes, qu’il détourne activement. Amateur de concepts et d’humour, ce drôle de chorégraphe ourdit une œuvre sans « danse », ludique et minimaliste, en détricotant tous les codes du spectaculaire, artistiques, économiques ou sociaux. Plutôt que de proposer du « prêt-à-regarder », il sollicite l’imaginaire du public et met sa réflexion en mouvement. Après Véronique Doisneau (2004), qui dévoilait le regard d’une danseuse de l’Opéra de Paris sur son métier et sa vie, Cédric Andrieux livre l’histoire subjective du danseur : ses années d’apprentissage, son expérience comme interprète dans la compagnie de Merce Cunningham et, récemment, au sein du Ballet de l’Opéra de Lyon.
