Michel Kelemenis s’est régalé de la présence des vingt-deux danseurs du Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, mais ne fait pas de sa Cendrillon un ballet classique pour autant. Un « ballet d’action » contemporain, peut-être, qui joue le jeu de la narration et du personnage pour livrer une vraie lecture du conte. Le chorégraphe adopte une attitude sciemment moins édulcorée que ce que l’on peut connaître de certaines versions, ravivant la beauté des sœurs et la jalousie de Cendrillon, mettant au jour la violence et transformant les habituelles fées en « charmes » masculins. La scénographie de Bruno de Lavenère fait son petit effet, entre illusion et réalisme, forêt lugubre et plateau brillant, tandis que les danseurs jouent avec les étoffes comme avec des jouets.
