Enfant prodige qui joua devant Louis XIV et fut célébrée comme l’une des plus grandes clavecinistes de son temps, Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre est aussi l’une des rares compositrices de l’Ancien Régime. À côté d’un corpus majeur de Sonates pour clavier, placé à l’égal de celui de François Couperin, elle a aussi écrit trois ouvrages lyriques dont seul Céphale et Procris est resté. Créée en 1694, la tragédie lyrique, inspirée des Métamorphoses d’Ovide, est tombée dans l’oubli après seulement quelques représentations, dans un contexte difficile de succession aux canons établis par Lully auxquels le public restait alors attaché. Quinze ans après un enregistrement de Daniela Dolci et Musica Fiorita, le haute-contre Reinoud van Mechelen, qui chantera Céphale, réhabilitera l’ouvrage en concert, avec les musiciens de son ensemble A Nocte Temporis.
