De pièce en pièce, Raphaël Cottin interroge la danse. Il faut dire que, chorégraphe érudit, il est aussi chercheur en notation, pédagogue, et membre expert du Conseil international de cinétographie Laban (ICKL). Pour cette nouvelle création, il s’intéresse donc – logiquement – à l’histoire de l’art chorégraphique. C’est une légende, pièce jeune public, raconte la danse, dans tous ses éclats de modernité. Car la danse est aussi le reflet d’une société, d’un contexte, dans lequel elle naît. En six chapitres, de Louis XIV (précurseur absolu) à Pina Bausch, en passant par Isadora Duncan, Laban et Nikolaïs, le spectacle parcourt le temps, à travers les gestuelles, interprétées par Antoine Arbeit et Nicolas Diguet, et le récit raconté en voix off par la comédienne Sophie Lenoir. S’appuyant sur sa propre expérience, qui lui a fait rencontrer la danse alors qu’il était enfant, Raphaël Cottin tient à faire connaître aux plus jeunes cet art « réputé difficile » et destiné « aux filles ». L’idée principale est de tordre le cou à quelques légendes et préjugés, de rendre accessible à tous un art trop souvent négligé par l’école.
