France, terre d’immigration depuis le XIXe siècle… Forte du constat que près d’un Français sur quatre a au moins un grand-parent immigré, et alors qu’a été dernièrement lancé un “débat “ sur l’identité nationale ouvrant les vannes à un flot de nauséabonds et simplistes commentaires sur la supposée définition de ladite identité, la compagnie Minuit Une dirigée par Frédérique Lazarini a commandé à Aziz Chouaki ce texte truculent, haut en couleurs, subtil et tendre. Cette « comédie provençale » avec pour décor le bistrot d’un petit village dans les années 60 met en scène un échantillon d’humanité disparate qui parle, parle encore et encore, comme dans tout bar d’habitués, laissant parfois libre cours aux rumeurs les plus folles. La tenancière de ce bar, c’est la charismatique Mimi – interprétée par Rayhana -, la cinquantaine, Algérienne chassée de son pays vingt ans auparavant parce qu’elle était tombée amoureuse d’un Français, Charles, avec qui elle vit toujours. Autant dire que pour elle le sujet est douloureux et que les clients évitent de l’embêter avec ça. Sauf qu’avec en toile de fond la guerre d’Algérie, le sujet sourd de partout. Un regard de tendresse sur « la singularité de l’identité », en musique et en chansons.
