« J’ai l’impression qu’il y a des pans entiers du monde qui séjournent en moi et qu’écrire est une façon d’éclairer, à ma façon, certaines problématiques. » disait Gustave Akakpo, dans un entretien accordé à La Terrasse, lors de l’année qu’il passa en résidence au TARMAC de La Villette. C’est à l’occasion de son installation dans ce théâtre, où l’intelligente et généreuse Valérie Baran a su, ces dernières années, permettre la découverte du meilleur et du plus prometteur de la scène francophone contemporaine, qu’on a pu mieux connaître cet auteur aux mots en liberté, qui choisit toujours de rire là où on pourrait pleurer. On se souvient de A petite Pierres et de Habbat Alep, mais aussi de la création de Chiche l’Afrique, repris cet été au Petit Louvre. Dans ce spectacle drôlement insolent, Gustave Akakpo se fait bateleur et imitateur et « convoque une pléiade de dictateurs ou d’élus aux mains propres ( !) à la plus délirante des revues de presse africaine qui ne manque pas de nous égratigner au passage ».
Rejetons autocratiques
On y retrouve toutes les gabegies de la Françafrique, la corruption, l’hypocrisie, les relations incestueuses entre l’ancienne colonie toujours avide et ses rejetons autocratiques qui engraissent en affamant leurs peuples. Comme un gamin qui s’amuse, Gustave Akakpo transforme la scène en guignol hilarant et tire à boulets rouges sur les compromis, les vendus et les traîtres. Car, comme le disait Aimé Césaire à propos de Fanon, il est des « guerriers-silex » qui « rayent le regard des bourreaux » : par le rire, Gustave Akakpo est de ce combat !
