Sous l’impulsion du Duc des Lombards et de sa programmation hors-les-murs, l’Olympia présente en juillet trois soirées « jazz » exceptionnelles. Un double plateau féminin ouvre le bal (le 1er), avec deux artistes adoubées par Ahmad Jamal en personne : la pianiste japonaise Hiromi et son « Trio Project » dont le nouvel album « Voice » sort courant juin, en trio avec Anthony Jackson (basse) et Steve Smith (batterie). Autre invitée de cette « Ladies’ Night », la phénoménale contrebassiste et chanteuse afro-américaine d’origine hispanique Esperanza Spalding qui vient de confirmer sa sensationnelle apparition sur la scène internationale en étant distinguée comme Révélation de l’année lors des Grammy Awards 2011, devant unJustin Bieber écoeuré, auquel la récompense semblait promise.Cette familière du couple Obama qui l’invite régulièrement à jouer à la Maison Blanche présentera pour la première fois à Paris son projet «Chamber Music Society » construit autour d’un trio de cordes violon-alto-violoncelle. Le lendemain (le 2), le grandAhmad Jamal, référence absolue du jazz de la seconde moitié du XXè siècle, entrera sur le plateau de l’Olympia pour célébrer son 81ème anniversaire à la tête de son quartet de choc composé de ses fidèles James Camack (contrebasse), Herlin Riley (batterie) et Manolo Badrena (percussions). Enfin, le temps de se remettre de ces émotions, et le jazzfan parisien pourra faire son retour dans la salle du boulevard des capucines le 18 juillet avec un hallucinant « Tribute To Miles » placé sous l’autorité musicale de Marcus Miller (basse & clarinette basse) et rassemblant deux autres musiciens d’exception qui doivent beaucoup au trompettiste : Herbie Hancock (piano & claviers) et Wayne Shorter (saxophone). Sean Jones (trompette) et Sean Rickman (batterie) complètent le quintette tandis que le pianiste Eric Legnini assurera la première partie en trio.
